Well we arrived in Brookwood, AL on Thursday evening and was met by Duane who showed us around the GG Hardin Center and where to put our tents. We got the tents up and went to bed.
The next morning we got warm welcome’s from all, especially a nice lady who called herself MiMi, she took a liking to our daughter Doris right away. We were fed some awesome biscuits w/ sausage and eggs and a hot cup of java.
We got right out in the field in Eowyn and Camp Cherry Austin areas with the u-haul trailer and started handing out water, pet food and such, the biggest need was ice for the victims. We saw such devastation we all cried our eyes out. Met some wonderful folks and gave some very needed hugs as well as some very needed petting to the friendly dogs and cats around. The milkbone treats came in very handy.
We took what we had left of our trailer supplies over to Midway Baptist Church in Brookwood and met some of the greatest people with the warmest hearts there. They offered us drinks, food and a place to stay. We told them we would come over on Sunday evening to stay and they invited us to Church on Sunday morning as well as Bible Study before Church. To make a long story short we ended up at Midway on Saturday evening instead of Sunday and went to one of the best Church Services I have ever been to. Pastor Robert Green gave a Good Ole Southern Baptist Preaching that touched our hearts.
We decided that our need was at Midway helping to sort clothing and items, load/unload trucks and help those in need when they came in. But before we came over to Midway, we were headed to Pleasent Grove, AL, hit a road block and told the Sheriff there that we had 25 hot meals and 5 cases of MRE’s to deliver, they guided us a tent who guided us to the Earnest United Methodist Church where we not only gave them the meals but we ended up donating half of our stuff in the van such as our tent, smokey-joe grill, charcoal, box of can goods to eat on and some other items and said that God would provide for us and he has. The town of Concord was so devastating our hearts went to them all. The Pastor at the Methodist Church here fed us after we unpacked our van and had some great conversation.
As we were eating there at the Church we got word that my Mother-in-laws cat died, so the kids were crying and upset and the Pastor here gave them a bunch of cat supplies to get us started on buying the kids a cat, hmmmm!!!
We left the Church and headed back to Midway Church and to our surprise they had a 28′ camper trailer setup for us to stay in while we there. Something to else to warm our hearts and make us cry.
Anyway, that brings us to today, we have been at Midway since Saturday evening and love the people here very much. Trust in God and he shall provide, there is doubts in my mind about that.
We will be packing up the van and heading out in the morning for Indiana where the wife will return to work for 2 days and then have 2 days off to rest up. We have a bake sale – yard sale planned on Saturday to fund raise for Tennessee Relief.
God Bless you all who have donated and we ask that you please keep it coming in as we have other cities and locations in need.
