TENTS 4 CORDOVA – ACTION NEEDED:

We are starting a drive for tent donations for Cordova, AL residents who are being denied FEMA trailers by the Mayor Jack Scott because zoning issues are more important to him. If we can get 200+ tents donated I will drive them to Alabama myself…C’mon peeps, give 110%.

More info here:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/JackScottFail

and here:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/notes/susie-burkett/the-deal-with-the-evile-nasty-mean-abhorrent-mayor-of-cordova-alput-in-a-note-fo/10150264456247160

We have emailed a ton of Tent makers and are awaiting a response from them on a donation of tents. We are looking for about 200-500 tents to take down and recommend these families being denied FEMA trailers should setup their tents on the Courthouse lawn and camp out until this Mayor decides to worry about the citizens more then he does some stupid zoning law, these people lost everything and are in need, where is this Mayor’s common sense?

Please donate cash using our Donate button to the right and in the notes tell us it’s for Tents 4 Cordova and we will ensure that’s where your donation goes. If you have tent(s) to donate contact one of our Board of Directors.

Update – Alabama

0505112239

Well we arrived in Brookwood, AL on Thursday evening and was met by Duane who showed us around the GG Hardin Center and where to put our tents. We got the tents up and went to bed.

The next morning we got warm welcome’s from all, especially a nice lady who called herself MiMi, she took a liking to our daughter Doris right away. We were fed some awesome biscuits w/ sausage and eggs and a hot cup of java.

We got right out in the field in Eowyn and Camp Cherry Austin areas with the u-haul trailer and started handing out water, pet food and such, the biggest need was ice for the victims. We saw such devastation we all cried our eyes out. Met some wonderful folks and gave some very needed hugs  as well as some very needed petting to the friendly dogs and cats around. The milkbone treats came in very handy.

We took what we had left of our trailer supplies over to Midway Baptist Church in Brookwood and met some of the greatest people with the warmest hearts there. They offered us drinks, food and a place to stay. We told them we would come over on Sunday evening to stay and they invited us to Church on Sunday morning as well as Bible Study before Church. To make a long story short we ended up at Midway on Saturday evening instead of Sunday and went to one of the best Church Services I have ever been to. Pastor Robert Green gave a Good Ole Southern Baptist Preaching that touched our hearts.

We decided that our need was at Midway helping to sort clothing and items, load/unload trucks and help those in need when they came in. But before we came over to Midway, we were headed to Pleasent Grove, AL, hit a road block and told the Sheriff there that we had 25 hot meals and 5 cases of MRE’s to deliver, they guided us a tent who guided us to the Earnest United Methodist Church where we not only gave them the meals but we ended up donating half of our stuff in the van such as our tent, smokey-joe grill, charcoal, box of can goods to eat on and some other items and said that God would provide for us and he has. The town of Concord was so devastating our hearts went to them all. The Pastor at the Methodist Church here fed us after we unpacked our van and had some great conversation.

As we were eating there at the Church we got word that my Mother-in-laws cat died, so the kids were crying and upset and the Pastor here gave them a bunch of cat supplies to get us started on buying the kids a cat, hmmmm!!!

We left the Church and headed back to Midway Church and to our surprise they had a 28′ camper trailer setup for us to stay in while we there. Something to else to warm our hearts and make us cry.

Anyway, that brings us to today, we have been at Midway since Saturday evening and love the people here very much. Trust in God and he shall provide, there is doubts in my mind about that.

We will be packing up the van and heading out in the morning for Indiana where the wife will return to work for 2 days and then have 2 days off to rest up. We have a bake sale – yard sale planned on Saturday to fund raise for Tennessee Relief.

God Bless you all who have donated and we ask that you please keep it coming in as we have other cities and locations in need.

Please pray for our trip – Heading out

0504111236a

We made it up after about 4 hours sleep and are getting ready to head off to Alabama after we add a few more items to the van that got left out. We ask that you keep us in your prayers, not only will be dealing with authorities in Alabama trying to keep Volunteers out of some areas, but we will have two 17 year old teenagers and a 10 year old who have never seen this kind of devastation before.

Another donation came in this morning to help along the way, I want to thank each and every one of you who have given to your hearts content and then gave some more. God is surely smiling down upon you today.

I will leave it at this and get ready to get on the way, please pray for us and then pray for us some more. Donations are always open and appreciated, please give what you can afford and not a dime more, it’s about giving not giving your last dime. God Bless you and yours and we will keep the Facebook group updated from the road.

It’s about that time…

0504111907

Well it’s getting closer to the time we leave for Alabama, just 7 hours until we head out. We have the trailer packed to the gills, the van getting full quick and we still have 5 people to pile into the van….oh such good times.

We will be in Alabama by later this evening and will get our tent setup as soon as possible and meet some of our contacts and get some sleep so we can be at the Brookwood Town Hall at 9AM sharp to start Friday morning off helping. Hoping to cover a lot of ground in some of the smaller cities that aren’t getting all the attention the larger ones are getting.

Well, we will keep you posted on our Facebook group, that is where the active community is at the most, there are some photos of us loading the trailer today and some photos of some of the donations on the Facebook group. An easy shortcut to the group is http://3ndv.hopto.org

Welcome to the home of “3 Nails Disaster Volunteers”…

I would like to personally welcome you all to our new website and home of our new organization in the works. We are building this organization from ground up with a few members from a small community located in Greencastle, IN.

The first thing on our agenda is to offer some relief and supplies in the Tuscaloosa, AL area. On May 5th, 2011 a few of us Volunteers will be heading down to Alabama with a trailer of supplies including first aid items, bottled water, non perishable foods, baby items, toys, bibles and anything else we can accumulate from their needs list given to us by Melissa Camp from Brookwood, AL who started out as one woman on a mission and now has 150 volunteers strong…God Bless her. Her group meets at the Brookwood Town Hall between 9:00am and 9:30am daily to start off their day.

If you would like to volunteer or have some items or funds that you would like to donate please visit our Facebook Group at http://3ndv.hopto.org
